If you’ve ever wanted to try knitting with two colors, mosaic knitting is the perfect place to start. Never heard of mosaic knitting before? You’re not alone—and that’s exactly why this class is for you!

Mosaic knitting is a fun and approachable way to dive into colorwork. While the finished patterns may look complex, you’ll be surprised to learn that you only use one color per row! In this class, you’ll discover the magic of mosaic knitting as you create a colorful cowl using simple knit, purl, and slip stitch techniques.

Supplies:

  • Pattern: Mosaic Cowl by Shannon Dunbabin - Free on Ravelry: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mosaic-cowl-14
  • Size US 5 (3.75 mm) and US 6 (4.0 mm) circular Knitting Needle, 16” cable
  • Main Color (C1): 160 yards Worsted weight yarn (approx)
  • Contrasting Color (C2): 100 yards (approx)
  • Other Tools: Stitch marker, tapestry/darning needle

Gauge: 20 sts x 32 rows = 4” (10 cm) in mosaic pattern, blocked

Finished Size: Height: 6 inches, Circumference: 24 inches 

Homework:

  • With US 5 (3.75 mm) (or needles you need to meet gauge), cast on with Main Color (MC) 120 stitches
  • Join in round, placing marker to show the beginning of the round
  • Bottom Edge:
    • Round 1: Knit (all stitches)
    • Round 2: Purl (all stitches)
    • Do 5 (five) repeats Rounds 1-2 (5 garter ridges)

Skill Level: Intermediate - must be comfortable knitting in the round.
