Have a hole in your favorite pair of handknit socks, a threadbare section on your most beloved sweater at the elbows, or want to add decorative stitching to a garment that needs repair? In this darning and mending workshop, we’ll use a handheld Katrinkles loom to visibly mend and repair, making handknits sturdy again and as good as new! This type of loom is much easier than using a darning egg or mushroom, and the techniques learned work on handknits, machine knits, or any fabric in need of some TLC.
Supplies:
- At least one item that needs mending (handknits preferable, but any garment will do, including denim or machine knits).
- Katrinkles Darning & Mending Loom in preferred size available here: https://katrinkles.com/products/darning-mending-looms. Registered students will receive an email with a 20% discount code for a loom purchase.
- The bigger loom covers more surface area and is better for larger holes that seem to happen on sock heels and elbow areas. The smaller loom is a good option also, but Tanis does not recommend the tiny loom.
- Fingering weight yarn in matching color or contrasting color for mending
- Pair of sharp scissors
