Students will learn the techniques of overlay crochet while creating a multicolored mandala. Techniques they will learn include the structure of circular crochet, starting with a magic ring, and making a needle (invisible) join. Stitches they will learn include: sc in back loop, dc or tr in front loop of row below, front and back post stitches, crocheting two or more regular or post stitches together, and spike sc stitch. They will work from an original pattern created by the instructor. Pattern and yarn for the project will be handed out in class.

Supplies:

• Crochet hook: 4 mm (G/6) or 4.5 mm (7) (suitable for use with DK-weight yarn)
• Tapestry needle to darn in ends
• Scissors
• Pencil or pen

Homework: None

Skill Level: Intermediate - must be experienced with using basic crochet stitches. It will be helpful, but not required, to know how to crochet together two or more stitches and to crochet in the round.
