Curves, criss-crosses, butterflies – there are so many pretty effects you can make with elongated and [intentionally dropped stitches. We’ll play with a few of the classic patterns in this category and learn how to handle them with confidence.

Supplies:
- Three colors smooth, lightweight yarn - fingering or DK weight. (Elizabeth recommends DK, but fingering will also work.) At least two should be light or bright solid colors; one of the stitches we'll explore works with either solid colors or yarns with long color repeats.
- Stitch holders (you can use a strand of yarn)
- Straight or circular needles. Samples will be worked back and forth, so choose whichever needles you prefer for that. If using fingering weight yarn, choose a needle two or three sizes larger than you'd usually use. If using DK weight yarn, choose a needle that you would usually use for that weight of yarn.
- Standard knitter's tool kit items: stitch markers, sewing-up needle, pencil and paper for taking notes, etc.
