Log Cabin Squares with Elizabeth Durand (9/27/24 6:00 PM)
The log cabin square is based on a traditional quilt pattern. It is constructed from the center outward, adding "logs" gradually and rotating 90 degrees each time a log is added. Advantages include wonderful design possibilities and the stability derived from this block's construction. You can proceed with an established, set design, or be wildly improvisational - or stop at any point between the two extremes. You can be as conservative or as creative as you like. This is an excellent way to use up miscellaneous stash. Just keep your yarns similar in weight and spread the colors around and it will look like you planned it all along.
Every project is a work of art and everybody's looks different. You'll learn basic techniques and some variations. Come prepared to play!

Supplies:
- Worsted weight yarn in assorted solid colors
- If you want to experiment, bring one or two yarns with long color changes (such as Noro Kureyon)
- 24- or 32-inch circular needle in the size you to need to make a nice fabric. If you don't know what works for you, start swatching with a size 7 (4.5 mm). You will be knitting back and forth, but the extra length and flexibility of the circular needle will be helpful.
- Crochet hook one size smaller than the needle you will be using
- Basic knitter's toolkit items: scissors, sewing-up needle, measuring tape, stitch markers, paper and pencil, etc.
