Sarah Schira has inspired a population explosion of gnomes in the knitting world with her annual December mystery gnome releases. We’ll be knitting one of her smaller creations, Gnome Gnoah. Go with the traditional red hat, white beard, and green or blue jacket, or change the color scheme to match a family member – maybe you need a black beard and a purple shirt? I can’t wait to see the personalities that will emerge from your needles! All necessary techniques will be demonstrated in class, so you’ll know how to proceed if you did not have time to finish your creation.

Date/Time: Saturday, September 28, 2024 9:00 AM-Noon

Supplies:

  • Gno Fun Like Gnome Fun pattern – available for purchase on Ravelry at https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gno-fun-like-gnome-fun.
  • Small amounts of worsted weight yarn in jacket color, hat color, and beard color (see pattern for yardages).
  • Double-pointed needles in size you need to make a firm but not stiff fabric – start swatching with a size 7 (4.5 mm) if you’re not sure.
  • Basic knitter’s toolkit items: scissors, sewing-up needle, measuring tape, stitch markers, paper and pencil, crochet hook, etc.
  • A large handful of fiberfill for stuffing and 2 tablespoons plastic pellets or aquarium rocks for weight. If you do not have pellets or rocks, single-gnome servings will be available to purchase for $1 – please bring singles or quarters, as no change will be available. Some fiberfill will be available in class as well.

Homework: None

Skill Level:  Intermediate: must know how to knit, purl, increase, decrease, read patterns. Experience with knitting a small circumference using double-pointed needles or magic loop will be helpful, but adventurous knitters who are willing to learn are welcome. Note: if you are not proficient with magic loop, this is not a good pattern to learn on; stick with tried and true double points.
